Quarterly Update: December 2024
This marks my first quarterly update! I’ll be posting here every few months about new and upcoming projects.
Since
completing Out of Dark Waters, and releasing it into the wild, I’ve been
busy working on a couple of writing endeavors I’m excited to share.
One,
tentatively titled The Knight and the Necromancer, is a novel I began
several years ago, and got quite close to completing before a confluence of
life circumstances pulled my attention away from it. During that time, though,
the story remained important to me, and I’m glad to be continuing now.
It centers
on a young necromancer and the undead servant bound to him by his later father.
In a world brought to the brink by war, fanaticism, and scheming, the story
asks whether the young man, Althur, can hold onto the person he wishes to be, or
if his duties will turn him toward a different and darker path.
I’m happy
to report that my draft for The Knight and the Necromancer is
tantalizingly close to done, though there will undoubtedly be a significant
revision process, as I wrangle my prose and ideas from eight years ago.
The other
major project that currently occupies me is a new novel in the same world as Out
of Dark Waters. Its story was set in motion a thousand years prior, when
the dominion of elvenkind fell, and their ancestral groves, from which new
elves are born, were burned to nothing. Now, a party of odd bedfellows, each
with their own motivation, seeks to recover the precious athneon seeds
from the treasure hoard of the Winged Fire, Myrodhar, to replant the groves.
At press
time, I’m somewhere between 20% and 30% of my way through this story’s draft,
and I’m optimistic that it will be completed within the following year!
Outside of
those two major projects, I’ve put together a couple of social media accounts
on Instagram and Bluesky. I’ll be using those to post writing updates, as well
as to share some of my miniature painting and other tabletop content. I also
hope to share some Frostgrave scenarios I’ve written right here on my blog.
I recently
enjoyed chatting about my work in an interview with Juzi at Vault of Scrolls.
We talked about some of the literary and personal inspirations that went into Out
of Dark Waters. So, thank you to Juzi for the opportunity to discuss that!
Wishing
everyone Happy Holidays!
