The Broken Hills
The broken hills were once home to a dwarven realm, and one of the world's oldest cities. After a bitter war with the Kingdom of Periandor, the Broken Hills fell under human rule, and the ancient city of Immerdwelm lay in sunken ruins.
Continental Thindul
Thindul's main landmass stretches across the world's norther hemisphere. Mountains shield the interior continent from the prevailing westerly winds, engendering a vast interior desert. The subcontinent of Gwynnbered lies to the southwest.
The Dragon Roost and its Territories
"The Dragonroost" names the Dragon Lady's seat of power, and as well as the wider lands under her Dominion. The soil is stony, and only narrow swaths of forest have been cleared for farming. The region profits mainly from trade coming through the land from Brimstock, toward Periandor's capital at Angarom.
The Elven Enclaves
The Enclaves are an alliance of elven city-states, rebuilt on the peninsula of Olhuiriar after the Sylvan Dominion was destroyed during the Orc Wrath. The alliance is comprised of two primary groups, the lowland elven cities, and the mountain enclaves.
The Empire of Steel
The Aeohtar lords of the Steel Empire once commanded a modest kingdom in the northern mountains, which descended southward as far as Veldzazos and the River Garazan. Through gradual conquest, they came to possess the city of horned men, Ordikai Anakis, as well as the elven lake cities, and the wilderness south of the Zarrakas Uplands.
The Fisher Coast
The Fisher Coast is a sparsely populated region of Periandor, comprised primarily of territorial holdings claimed by the city of Marlinhelm. The Fisher Road runs north~south along the length of the Coast. The road represents an attempt by Marinhelm to funnel trade through its own lands, and is the only major road in Periandor not funded and guarded directly by the crown. Without the crown's resources behind it, the Fisher Road offers quicker, but more dangerous, passage between Brimstock and Rukkarim.
The Great Isle of Gwynnbered
The Great Isle entombs the fallen god Beladar, where he slumbers under divine and arcane bindings. The land is controlled by a consortium of dwarven and gnomish mining guilds, which pry from the earth rubies and gold, once the scales of the dragon god.
The Harpwringer Domain
The Harpwringer Dwarves descend from captives of Z'Irada Aurautha. After the empire's collapse, the escaped dwarves first settled along the Glassheibe, before moving most of their population to the greater safety of the Skydelm.
The Monarchical Republic of Norquii
The gnomish homeland, Norquii is a monarchical republic with three chambers of assembly. On the whole, it is more egalitarian than most nations of Thindul, but known for its byzantine politics.
Naihurin Etarl
Eastern Naihurin Etarl broke into a loose coalition of city-states after its empire was smashed by the Orcwrath. A handful of the region's central cities were saved from annihilation by a nameless entity, which offered them protection in return for subjugation.
Ostregvaza
Ostregvaza is an orcish isolationist ethnostate, which coalesced at the end of the Orcwrath, nearly a thousand years ago.
Out of Dark Waters
This map was drawn for my debut novel, Out of Dark Waters. It highlights many of the major locations visited or discussed during the events of that story. I had thought, initially, that this would be reasonably easy to make, given how much of Thindul I had mapped in detail already. I quickly discovered, though, that distilling everything I wanted to show down to a black & white map that fits on a book page is rather a challenge, actually.
The Kingdom of Periandor
Sometimes called "The Fist of Mankind," for the shape of its peninsula and its hegemonic position in the region, Periandor is a human kingdom structured around a feudal magocracy. It benefits from its position of proximity to Gwynnbered, and much of the Great Isle's wealth flows through Periandor.
Rukkarim
Rukkarim is the land of the Rukkar people, and home to the Confederation of the Rukkar. The Confederation is an alliance of trade cities, united politically a century ago in response to Periandor's expansion. Most of the landscape, however, is a prairie, dwelt upon by nomadic herders.
Tavertine
Tavertine, the “Ruined Coast,” was a small human kingdom, which collapsed a century ago during a civil war between twin princes. After the Yaeorians later appeared from an unknown world, they began to resettle the northmost portions of Tavertine.
The Western Wilds
With no major power in the region, the Western Wilds are characterized by alliances of tribes and settlements. The Feldyr and Anakim have long banded together against aggression from the ogres, giants, and orcish raiders to their east.
